In celebration of our 15th year, we are very pleased to announce a new partnership with Unite to Light, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing low-cost solar lighting to global communities without electricity. As part of our 15th anniversary celebration, we have teamed up with Unite to Light in a campaign we’re calling Bring the Light.
Why Unite to Light?
The importance of light is always on the forefront of our minds – not so much because we supply lighting solutions but because we are always talking about lighting and researching it. In many places in the world, lighting is taken for granted, but other places could use a little light and the options light brings for the future.
For many people, gaining literacy is nearly impossible without a source of light at night. Work hours and family responsibilities prevent them from spending day time learning to read. It’s a shame that many people must resort to burning fuels to not live in darkness at night. Although Unite to Light’s portable solar products are incredibly versatile, they are often conceptualized as reading lights. They charge during the day in order to provide light at night with the flip of a switch. No combustion necessary. This is great for studying at night.
Unite to Light also offers a portable solar light with a USB port for charging electronic devices like e-readers and tablets. As more efforts are being made to increase the accessibility of electronic devices to economically disadvantaged communities, it only makes sense to help people charge those devices in order to use them as learning tools! We try to stay aware of the profound impact literacy can have on a human being.
We wanted to do something big to commemorate our 15th year, and Unite to Light has given us an amazing opportunity to do so. The best part is that you can EASILY contribute to this effort!
We are donating $1,500 worth of Unite to Light’s great portable solar lights to a single community in northern Ghana that lacks grid electricity. Then, for every 15 of these solar lights bought or donated by our awesome customers (psst! that’s YOU), we will donate one more portable solar light, up to a value of $1,000. That way, both our customers and we get to take part in this wonderful campaign of bringing the light. We are thrilled!
We also have sweet t-shirts. The first two hundred customers to buy or donate a light will receive a free tee. They are also available separately for purchase. A portion of the proceeds from these sales go directly to Unite to Light. Boom.
