Top 3 Android Apps for Home Improvement Professionals

I wrote a post awhile back on Top iPhone Apps for Home Improvement Professionals; but since not everyone is an iPhone owner, I decided to delve into the Android market to find the most useful apps out there for home improvement professionals and DIY-ers alike.

It turns out there are quite a few valuable tools on the Android market for all kinds of projects!  This post features the top three out of everything I reviewed. Please let me know in the comments of any great apps I missed.

Screenshots from each app are at the bottom of the post.

Bubble Level by Ben Zibble, Free

Take advantage of your phone’s accelerometer for a free level.  Just hold any of the phone’s four sides against an object to test (or lay it down on a flat surface for a 360° level).  You can change the settings to enable voice so that the app actually “speaks” the angle to you – a very nice feature. You can also set up the phone to vibrate, beep, or buzz when level.

Laser Level HangaPic by Apklng, $1.29

This is an incredibly useful tool. This app makes hanging collages, shelves and artwork breeze, particularly if you are hanging multiple pieces on one wall.  Rather than going through the headache of measuring out your distances and leveling each piece, you can simply hold your phone up to the wall, adjust the laser points to pinpoint the corners of your objects, and check for alignment. The incorporated level ensures you won’t make any mistakes.  At just $1.29, this app is well worth it!

Construction Master Pro by Calculated Industries, $19.99

This app comes highly recommended among contractors and foremen. It includes all the features and functions of an advanced construction math calculator. Read user reviews on appbrain.com, where it is cited as “worth every penny” and “superior.”  It’s great for quick, accurate solutions, and will save the day anytime you leave the bulky calculator in the office.
