These photos come from a serious DIY-er, so perhaps they’ll be an inspiration for anyone considering tackling a major renovation project on your own. Chad decided to build a kitchen in his basement, so he picked out cabinets and hardware and then installed all of the electrical, plumbing, and flooring with the help of his wife. He hired someone to help with the countertops and drywall work. “Some things should just be left to the pros,” Chad said. We agree!

Get ready for some unbelievable before and after pictures.

Today’s post features a kitchen remodeling project from Rob’s Remodeling, Inc. After talking with Rob on the phone, I wished I lived closer to Northbrook, IL (where Rob’s Remodeling, Inc. is based) so I could hire him for any future remodeling projects I might have. He’s the nicest guy, and he’s clearly passionate about doing quality work. “I don’t do this for the money,” he told me. “I just love what I do.”

Rob says he uses Pegasus Lighting products whenever he can. His favorite under cabinet lighting fixture is the Xenon Triangle Light, and he is a perfectionist about making sure clients cannot see any wires once they’re installed. Best of all, he’s as big of a fan of under cabinet lighting as we are: “When I talk someone into doing under cabinet lighting,” he said, “it’s the difference between a good kitchen and a kickass kitchen.”

Without further ado, here are the pictures of a recent kitchen remodeling project Rob completed for a client. Continue reading »

Have you ever shopped for a (lighting) product online and thought, “I wish I could see it a little more closely,” or “Why doesn’t this picture show the mounting equipment/light bulbs/power switch/fill in the blank…

So have we.

Light Reading is more than just a cool place to read about lighting news, trends, and tips (or at least, we like to think so).

It’s an extension of Pegasus Lighting’s corporate mission to provide a positive learning experience in lighting – and part of that includes creating an easy and informative shopping experience on our main website.

About a month ago, we asked our Facebook fans if it would be helpful to start shooting videos of our products for the website. That way, even if a product has ten photos, you can watch a video accompaniment to see every single angle and feature of the light fixture. After hearing positive feedback, we have launched our first three “Product Spotlight” videos. Continue reading »

This was my first time with a “do it yourself” lighting project, so I wanted to share my experiences from the very beginning.  I absolutely love the finished results!  This project was surprisingly easy to tackle.   I completed the install in less than two hours, and the total cost was right around $100.

I highly recommend making this update to your kitchen!

Have you ever seen a cove lighting installation in action?  Our xenon low voltage strip was featured on the DIY network TV show Rescue Renovation!  The episode features a young man who bought his first home from 1000 miles away.  Needless to say, it turned out to be quite a “fixer-upper.”

In this clip, you’ll see the Rescue Renovation team coming in to help.  They use the light strip behind crown molding to accentuate the home’s original cove ceiling.  View the video after the jump! Continue reading »

measuring for under cabinet lights How Many Under Cabinet Lights Do I Need?If you are about to embark on a kitchen remodel and are installing under cabinet lights, follow these guidelines to determine how many fixtures you should purchase.

First, measure the length of the “cavity” under your cabinet where you are going to place the fixtures.

If you are installing puck lights…

For a 6-10 inch cavity measurement (in length), use 1 puck light.

For 11-18 inches, use 2-3 puck lights.  For 19-26 inches, use 3-4 puck lights. For  27-34 inches, use 4-5 puck lights.  For 35-42 inches, use 5-7 puck lights.  For 43-50 inches, use 6-8 puck lights.

Tribute in Light A 9/11 Tribute in LightLast weekend, the night sky was illuminated in New York by two twin beams of light shining upward from Lower Manhattan.

The 9/11 “Tribute in Light” memorial is in its ninth year.  The rays, which are made up of more than 40 xenon light bulbs, are the strongest shafts of light ever projected from Earth into the night sky.  Each year, they evoke the shape of the Twin Towers beginning at dusk on September 11 and fading with the dawn on September 12.  Each year, they honor the victims of the terrorist attacks of 2001 and illuminate the sky as a silent, symbolic tribute.

The Municipal Art Society sponsors the display each year.  For more information, see the New York Times article.
