little girl holding camcorder video small On Site Video Boosts Conversions and Revenue for E Commerce SiteBEAVER FALLS, PA, Nov 15 – For online retailer Pegasus Lighting, details are everything.  With a mission to provide customers with “a learning experience in lighting” and a varied product line of light fixtures with extensive features, it’s important to be succinct.

After launching a new website in November 2010 that placed more emphasis on product images and customer reviews to create an informative, user-friendly shopping experience; Pegasus Lighting saw an opportunity to extend those efforts using video.

“With the new website, we were adding up to 15 photos of each product, and many included zoom and rotating images,” said vice president Chris Johnson. “Customers loved the update, so video was a natural next step.  We wanted to show our light fixtures in action so website visitors could have a closer look at light output, included hardware, color temperature, and more.” Continue reading »

Mobile Website.png2 Pegasus Lighting Debuts Mobile WebsiteBEAVER FALLS, PA, May 13 – As smartphones continue to become an integral part of the shopping process, consumer data proves mobile-friendly websites are increasingly valuable. In fact, a recent study from Google indicated that 79% of smartphone owners use their mobile devices to shop, whether that involves researching a product, comparing prices, or making a direct purchase.

On April 27, Pegasus Lighting launched a mobile version of their e-commerce website (http://m.pegasuslighting.com). The lighting retailer presence in the mobile space is surprisingly sparse. Pegasus Lighting saw an opportunity to offer online shoppers the convenience of a site designed specifically for smartphones while still providing the full feature-set from its main website. This includes extensive product information, product reviews, FAQs, and a dedicated Help section.

The mobile site is especially valuable for Pegasus Lighting’s many repeat business customers, who are often in the field. These customers can log into their accounts, check order statuses, review past orders, and place future orders all in the palms of their hands.

The announcement comes a year after the launch of the company’s Lighting Library app, which has received positive reviews among professionals and consumers alike. The free iPhone app offers a glossary of over 100 everyday lighting terms.

BEAVER FALLS, PA, January 10 – When Pegasus Lighting launched its new website expectations were high.  The redesign involved months of planning, coding and testing with the ultimate goal of creating an intuitive online shopping experience combined with the company’s stated goal of providing a learning experience in lighting to its many website visitors.  It might have been a typical project for any company undergoing a website upgrade.  However, a large group of people guiding the entire design process was not affiliated with the company at all.  In fact, they were the customers.

Pegasus Lighting’s customers saw sneak peaks of design templates, weighed in on features they’d like to see, provided feedback on layout and navigation and helped evaluate the finished product.

A number of new functionalities on the site contribute to a streamlined shopping experience.  A My Account section saves shipping and billing information as well as “favorite” items and order history, so the company’s many commercial and trade professional customers can reorder in a matter of seconds.  Product Reviews on each page enable customers to rate products directly on the site.  Product images have also improved drastically, so customers can zoom in on details of lighting fixtures while shopping.

Pegasus Lighting’s marketing team used Facebook, Twitter and its blog to receive instant feedback on templates and mockups.  They hosted a contest for blog readers who commented on the new design during the early phases of the project and then tweeted about the progress of design changes.  They even visited local coffee shops once the beta version of the site was developed to get feedback from potential website visitors.

Taking such an interactive approach to website design is telling of a new era unfolding for e-commerce, one in which customers are more involved than ever.  Product reviews have become paramount to success, a single tweet can communicate something to thousands of followers, and apparently, customers can help redesign entire websites.

It is clear that getting feedback from the people that matter most has paid off for Pegasus Lighting.  Since the new website launch, the site’s conversion rate is up 30%.  Perhaps most telling of the new site’s success is the fact that customers are more engaged than ever.  The time an average visitor spends on the site is up as well, over 25%.

Edge LitLEDEXITSign1 Safety Program Helps Bring LED Exit Signs to Schools Across the CountryBEAVER FALLS, PA, August 5, 2010 – Pegasus Associates Lighting has initiated a Commitment to Education & Safety program that offers LED exit signs to education institutions at a heavily discounted price.  The aim is to support schools strapped for funds and to encourage the integration of LED lights into buildings in order to cut energy and maintenance costs.

Although the economy is beginning to improve in other sectors, education leaders say any degree of recovery is not reflected in the school systems, where budget cuts are continuing to strain resources.  A recent survey from the American Association of School Administrators found that budget cuts will be much more significant for 2010-2011 than in the past.  According to the survey, the majority of K-12 school leaders are planning to delay technology updates next year.  Half of school leaders will also eliminate or delay instructional improvement programs.  Class sizes will continue to escalate as well: 62 percent of school leaders plan to increase class sizes for 2010-2011.

BEAVER FALLS, PA, August 3, 2010 – For e-commerce companies, shopping cart abandonment is an ever-present setback.  Customers visit the site, engage with the brand, research the products, and finally start the purchasing process – only to discard their order, often without explanation.  The average shopping cart abandonment rate is estimated to be somewhere between 60 and 70 percent.  Efforts to optimize the checkout process for customers can result in immediate increases in revenue.

Pegasus Associates Lighting’s recent efforts to improve its checkout process proved to be quite invaluable.  The e-commerce lighting distributor took steps to ensure customers felt more comfortable and informed during the checkout process.  The results: a 15% decrease in checkout abandonment rate and a 6% increase on average order size.  Pegasus Lighting’s successful strategies demonstrate how minor adjustments can have a great impact on the bottom line for online retailers.

RALEIGH, NC, July 20, 2010 – When Triangle Residential Options for Substance Abusers, Inc. (TROSA) sought out various building materials for their newest housing project, Pegasus Associates Lighting offered to provide recessed lighting for the house’s four bathrooms.  The donation of eighteen recessed shower trims and housings, a $600 value, helped TROSA put a three-week estimated completion date on refurbishment.

The “Elizabeth Street House” in Durham, NC will house 17 residents in the substance abuse recovery program.  Greg Fenn, In-Kind Donations Manager at TROSA, said that restoring the building has been a long and difficult process.  The original house was built in the 1920’s.

BEAVER FALLS, PA, February 23 — Social media is literally transforming the way people communicate with businesses.  One of the most important reasons for this transformation is the exponential growth of blogs, online forums, Facebook, Twitter, Yelp, and other electronic media that allow customers’ views to be read and compared by millions of readers.  For the first time, customers seem to have the ability to greatly influence how people think about businesses and how businesses react to their thoughts.

Over 25 million people access Yelp.com each month for reviews.  Approximately six million registered Twitter users have conversations about brands that are important to them – or ones that have failed them.  On Facebook, 200 million users join the mix to create an environment where the control lies with the customer.  It is no longer possible for companies to ignore the influence social media has on brand reputation.

While some companies panic about this changing mindset (engaging with customers on a real-time basis is foreign to the old world of corporate advertisements and press releases), others are successfully leveraging social media to align with the reason they’re doing business in the first place.  It’s all about the customers, right?
