Long ago, wall sconces were primarily mobile lighting devices which were carried to light the way throughout a home or passageway. These wall sconces were frequently hung on a wall or over a fireplace where they were readily available for the homeowner’s use. Today, wall sconces are attached to a wall to provide permanent illumination. But where do they go exactly?

LED Revolution LEDs Might Lead a Lighting Revolution in Five Years In five years we may just see a revolution in residential and office lighting led by LEDs manufactured with gallium nitride, according to Professor Colin Humphreys of Cambridge University. Gallium nitride LED lighting produces a brilliant light and could cut electricity consumption by approximately 75% in developed countries. This reduction would have the added benefit of creating substantial cuts in carbon dioxide emissions from power stations and help to preserve our fossil fuel reserves.

Gallium nitride, or GaN, is a semiconductor material that is considered by many to be the next important semiconductor after silicon. It is a brilliant light emitter able to operate at high temperatures. GaN is used to create devices with small physical volume that produce high output power.

BEAVER FALLS, PA, August 24, 2007 — The Pittsburgh Business Times recognized Pegasus Associates Lighting, based in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, as one of the “2007 Pittsburgh 100,” its ranking of our area’s fastest-growing, privately held companies. Rankings on the list were based on the rate of growth from 2004 through 2006. Recessed downlights should not be used to light your face while standing at a mirror in your bathroom because the light coming from these fixtures will only cause harsh shadows on your face. Instead, wall-mounted vanity light fixtures attached above the mirror and/or on both sides of the mirror, or backlit vanity mirrors (a very neat option – especially if wall space is limited) should be used. That way, shadows on your face can be minimized. Recessed downlights can be used in other parts of the bathroom for general lighting but not for task lighting at the sink area – unless, of course, you want to look years older or like Bella Lugosi in makeup.
